After being admitted to the Illinois and federal bars, Mr. Spiegel worked as an editor for the Standard Federal Tax Reporter, published by Commerce Clearing House. As an editor, he reviewed and summarized I.R.S. revenue rulings for publication in the Reporter, and wrote feature columns for the monthly update newsletter.
In 1979, Mr. Spiegel joined the firm of Pitler and Mandell, a general practice firm. His practice at Pitler and Mandell concentrated in family law, including divorce, child custody and child support, and negotiation of marital settlement agreements for clients of all economic situations. He also had a concentration in commercial litigation, and handled commercial collection cases, representing both creditors and debtors; breach of contract and contract enforcement cases; mechanic’s lien foreclosures; and landlord-tenant actions. He also represented and advised businesses with respect to their organization and operations.
During this time, Mr. Spiegel also developed an expertise in residential and commercial real estate matters, representing numerous buyers and sellers, as well as condominium developers and building contractors.
In 1997, Mr. Spiegel brought his expertise and experience to his own firm, and established The Law Offices of Mark L. Spiegel. While the firm practices in a number of different areas, its concentration is in family law, commercial litigation and residential and commercial real estate.
Mr. Spiegel has argued before the Illinois Appellate and Supreme Courts, and has substantial trial experience in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, as well as in the surrounding circuits courts. He is admitted to practice before the Illinois and federal bars, and is a member of the Illinois State Bar Association.
